Baby Size and Development: Week 12

Today is week 12.

Our baby is about the size of a plum.
As I move into the second trimester, baby shifts into the growth and maturation stage. After weeks in the critical development stage, almost all of baby's systems are fully formed.

Moving now!!!

I was laying on my bed today after I took a shower, just relaxing a bit before getting dressed and I felt something. Something moving. Something stirring. IN MY LOWER ABDOMEN!!!!

I waited for a few hours to wait and see if I was just gassy and would pass gas.....but I DIDN'T!!!!

I'm 99% positive I felt our baby move for the first time today!!!!!!

I'm on cloud 9 right now!!

Baby Size and Development: Week 11

Today is week 11.

Our baby is about the size of a lime.
Our fetus currently enjoys a 1:1 ratio between body and head, and has skin so transparent that blood vessels show right through. But, fingers and toes are no longer webbed, and hair follicles, tooth buds and nail beds are forming.

Dearest Baby: Letter 1

Dearest baby,

You are not even here yet and I already love you so much! We prayed for you, begged God for you, and now you are here....growing fast in Mommy's belly. We are so thankful you will be meeting us in October and everyone is so excited for your arrival!

You will know that you were wanted. We went through so much to have you that there is no way you could ever doubt that we wanted you more than we've wanted anything else!

Daddy and I can't wait to meet you in October!

All my love,
Mommy

Today is week 10.

Our baby is about the size of a prune.
With bones and cartilage starting to form and vital organs beginning to function, baby is making major progress. Body length will almost double in the next three weeks, and arm joints are now working. (soon, legs will too)

First OB visit

I had my first regular OB appointment today and it was pretty uneventful. They just did a physical, did blood tests and tried to hear baby's heartbeat. My midwife did move my due date to October 10th.....10-10-10!! She moved it based on the ultrasound I had a while back, since that was the due date it said!

We were not able to hear the baby's heartbeat this time, but that was because of the doppler they use. My midwife said that they usually can't hear a heartbeat with that until between 10 and 11 weeks. Well, I'm 9 weeks, so it was no biggie. We heard it before and I'm confident that things are still going good.

I did gain one pound since my last visit a month ago. I think that is good, especially since the baby bump is getting bigger and bigger!

They asked if we wanted the testing for down's syndrome or cystic fibrosis and we declined those tests. It will not change anything and we will not terminate if those conditions exist. And really, they are not necessary tests. We will take whatever God gives us happily! Even a child with disabilities or health issues.

Today is week 9.

Our baby is about the size of a green olive
Our little embryo has now officially graduated to fetus-hood. With basic physical structures in place and increasingly distinct facial features, baby is kind of starting to look like....well......a baby!
